A Message from the Executive Director
I am very pleased to welcome you to the website of the Military Growth Task Force of North Carolina's Eastern Region. We are currently in the detailed planning phase of a growth management plan to prepare for the 11,477 Marines, Sailors and DoD civilians who are part of as many as 61,000 new residents projected to come to the seven-county region around Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and New River Air Station in North Carolina's beautiful Eastern Region between 2006 and 2011. This growth is ongoing and nearly 9000 of the 11,477 Marines, Sailors and DoD civilians previously mentioned have already arrived.
Our mission is to coordinate and manage the changes this large influx of population is creating in order to minimize negative effects and maximize opportunities to enhance the long-term viability and quality of life for our active duty and civilian citizens.
The Military Growth Task Force, through its board and committees, plays a key role as an essential link to local government, public and private sectors, and military personnel. At the conclusion of our detailed planning phase, we will have assessed the likely growth effects, identified gaps in local development needs, and prepared a strategy and coordinating mechanism for meeting those needs.
Sincerely,
Tom Gaskill
Executive Director
Military Growth Task Force
